Toomey-Orr gave birth to her first child, Willow, in May 2023, so missed last year's CrossFit Games. AdvertisementWhether walking, hiking, or running, traveling on foot while carrying weight is an accessible way to work out, which is partly why it has exploded in popularity in Silicon Valley in recent years. As she pursues her seventh title, Toomey-Orr, 30, told BI how she uses rucking to elevate her workouts — and how regular people can too. With that in mind, Toomey-Orr expects rucking to feature in the CrossFit Games in some capacity, but the workouts aren't announced in advance and change every year. Start light if you're new to ruckingWhile rucking is generally an accessible way to work out, Toomey-Orr recommends starting light, short, and building up.

Influential proxy advisory firm ISS recommended on Tuesday that Norfolk Southern shareholders support five of activist Ancora's seven board nominees, withholding an endorsement from CEO pick Jim Barber but describing him as a "credible director and CEO candidate nonetheless." Ancora is seeking to oust both current CEO Shaw and newly appointed COO John Orr. ISS recommends shareholders support Ancora nominees William Clyburn, Sameh Fahmy, Gilbert Lamphere, Allison Landry and John Kasich. "As board chair, Amy Miles arguably bears the most responsibility for this state of affairs," ISS' report read. WATCH: CNBC's full interview with NSC CEO Shaw on activist campaign

Activist investor Ancora received a powerful endorsement in its efforts to secure a board change and to oust Norfolk Southern CEO Alan Shaw on Monday, when proxy advisor Glass Lewis recommended the railroad's shareholders vote for 6 of Ancora's board nominees. "We believe Ancora has presented a compelling case for supporting a substantial overhaul of the Company's current leadership," Glass Lewis said in its report. Furthermore, Glass Lewis said Barber, Ancora's pick for CEO, and Jamie Boychuk, the activist's pick for COO, "have compelling credentials and track records." Ancora also seeks to install former CSX executive Boychuk as Barber's chief operating officer. Their support, coupled with Glass Lewis' endorsement, gives the activist powerful ammunition as it seeks to convince shareholders.

A second Norfolk Southern union said Friday it would back activist Ancora's efforts to elect seven directors and oust CEO Alan Shaw, a sign of labor dissatisfaction with management and a key endorsement for Ancora as Norfolk Southern's shareholder meeting nears. The BLET Teamsters, which represents the engineers and trainsmen who operate Norfolk Southern's locomotives, said Friday they're throwing their weight behind Ancora. "It's a privilege to receive support from the BLET Teamsters, who believe in our plan to improve performance, safety and employee relations at Norfolk Southern," Barber said. The latest endorsement, coupled with the support of the BMWED Teamsters earlier this week, means roughly half of NSC's unionized employees are supporting the activist, Ancora said. "We recognize the hard work that the BLET Teamsters members and all of the Company's employees put in every day," Boychuk said.

Activist Ancora on Thursday won the support of the BMWED Teamsters in the investor's efforts to oust Norfolk Southern CEO Alan Shaw and a majority of the railroad's 13-person board. The labor group said it would back the activist's seven director nominees over Norfolk Southern management, a significant endorsement in an industry unusually dependent on union support. The support from the BMWED Teamsters, whose members build and maintain the track infrastructure that keeps Norfolk Southern trains moving, amounts to a sharp rebuke of Shaw and Norfolk Southern's board. Norfolk Southern and Ancora have been locked in a proxy contest for several months. Neuberger Berman, for example, is backing the activist and said that Norfolk Southern had a history of poor governance and that a boardroom change was needed.

The 13-year group, known as Brood XIX, or the Great Southern Brood, is the largest periodical cicada brood, stretching across the southeastern United States. The Northern Illinois Brood, or Brood XIII, emerges every 17 years. Periodical cicadas are smaller and mostly black, with bright red eyes and orange-tinged wings and legs. Billions of cicadas are expected this spring as two different broods — Broods XIX and XIII — emerge simultaneously. However, predictions of a cicadapocalypse — in which Brood XIII and Brood XIX show up at the same place at the same time — are probably an exaggeration.

Last month, Norfolk Southern hired Orr away from rival CPKC, paying tens of millions of dollars to buy him out of his contract. A witness told the arbitrator that, in one instance, Orr told the employee that she "was so f------ stupid it was embarrassing." Prior to the announced hiring of Orr, Ancora drew attention to claims about his behavior in emails to two Norfolk Southern board members that CNBC obtained. Norfolk Southern told CNBC in a statement that Ancora's analysis of the value of the route — the Meridian Speedway agreement — "is completely inaccurate and based on a flawed premise," in that it assumes Norfolk Southern is forgoing more revenue than it actually is. Regarding Orr, Norfolk Southern said he has a "track record of improving performance while operating safely and with integrity."

New Zealand central bank blames inflation for restrictive policy

Adrian Orr, governor of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ), speaks during a news conference in Wellington, New Zealand, on Thursday, Aug. 9, 2018. New Zealand's top central banker on Monday said the inflation challenge was still not over and cited broad financial pressure for retaining a "restrictive monetary policy" position. Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) Governor Adrian Orr, appearing before a parliamentary committee, said the current inflation rate at 4.7% was still too high and that the board's aim was to continue to slow it down to around 2%. "That's why we've retained a restrictive monetary policy stance with the official cash rate at 5.5% and we'll be back at the end of this month again with our updated views on the wisdom of that stance," Orr told lawmakers. The bank is due to meet at the end of the month.

Even in a campaign in which Mr. Trump’s dominance has sapped the race of much of its drama, his win in Nevada felt particularly preordained. Embarrassingly for Ms. Haley, she was heavily outvoted in that election by a “None of These Candidates” option on the ballot. She was essentially unopposed, but even without Mr. Trump on the ballot, Republican voters rejected her. Ms. Haley still won the contest, but its results were effectively immaterial. Mr. McDonald also repeatedly pushed false claims of voter fraud that remain at the heart of Mr. Trump’s lie that the 2020 election was stolen from him.

BEIJING (Reuters) -China would never allow any Chinese entities or individuals to conduct illegal activities such as cyberattacks or use Chinese facilities for such attacks, the Chinese embassy in the Netherlands said in a statement on Wednesday. The embassy was responding to a report by Dutch intelligence agencies that said Chinese state-backed cyber spies gained access to a Dutch military network last year. "China opposes any malicious speculation and groundless accusations, and advocates joint efforts to safeguard cybersecurity through dialogue and cooperation," an embassy spokesperson was quoted as saying in the statement. According to a Reuters report, the U.S. government in recent months launched an operation to fight a pervasive Chinese hacking operation that compromised thousands of internet-connected devices. The Netherlands embassy spokesperson said the "Chinese government has always resolutely opposed and cracked down on all forms of cyberattacks in accordance with the law."

BEIJING (Reuters) - Research being carried out by a Chinese vessel calling at a port in the Maldives is exclusively for peaceful purposes and enhancing scientific understanding, the Chinese foreign ministry said on Tuesday as the research vessel is set to arrive in the island nation. The Xiang Yang Hong 3 will "make a port call, for rotation of personnel and replenishment", the Maldivian foreign ministry had said in a statement in January. The presence of the vessel is likely to raise the concern of India, which has previously viewed such vessels close to its shores as problematic. China has a three-tier colour-coded warning system for thick fog, with red being the most serious, followed by orange and yellow. CCTV also reported that more than 100 airports across the country issued haze and snow warnings. Heavy snow is also affecting several provinces, including Henan and Hubei, forcing the closure of several roads, CCTV reported. GARNER, Iowa—Republican voters in Hancock County largely rejected Donald Trump eight years ago, giving him less than a fifth of the vote in the GOP caucuses. As recently as a year ago, some party faithful here and elsewhere in Iowa seemed eager to move on, saying they were tired of the former president’s chaos and liabilities. Now Trump appears poised to win this county Monday and claim victory in Iowa’s caucuses, powered largely by his overwhelming support among rural voters who see him as the best candidate to advance a populist conservative agenda. That pattern has played out in similar places across the country, helping explain why Trump has a hold over the Republican Party and is the nomination front-runner.
